Questions

Bathroom Renovation FAQs.

How much does a bathroom renovation cost on the Gold Coast?

The cost depends on the size of the room, how much of the layout is changing, the fixtures and finishes you choose, and what we find once the old bathroom comes out. A straightforward refresh costs less than a full strip-out and rebuild that relocates plumbing. Rather than quote a figure sight unseen, we look at the space, talk through what you want and give you a clear written quote — so there are no surprises.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

It depends on the size of the room and how much is changing, but most full bathroom renovations take a few weeks of on-site work once they begin. Waterproofing needs time to cure before tiling, so that step is never rushed. When we quote, we give you a realistic schedule and keep you updated as the job moves through each stage.

Do I need council approval for a bathroom renovation?

Most like-for-like bathroom renovations are treated as minor work and don't need council approval, but it depends on what's involved — moving walls, altering structure or some plumbing changes can require sign-off. As a licensed builder, we tell you early if anything in your project needs approval and make sure it is handled the right way.

Why does waterproofing matter so much?

Waterproofing is the most important part of any bathroom, and it is also the most common thing we see done poorly. When it fails, water gets into the wall and floor framing and the damage stays hidden until it becomes expensive. We waterproof wet areas properly, to the Australian Standards, and give the membrane time to cure before tiling — because doing it right once costs far less than fixing it later.

Will you help me choose the layout, fixtures and finishes?

Yes. We help you plan the layout and choose tiles, tapware, vanities and fittings that suit the space, your budget and the way you use the room. You are welcome to bring your own ideas or a designer's plan — either way you get practical advice on what works and what lasts.

Can I stay in the house during the renovation?

In most cases yes, provided you have another bathroom to use. A renovation is dusty, noisy work with trades coming and going, and there will be stretches where the room is out of action. We keep the site as tidy and contained as we can, and let you know what to expect week to week.

Which areas do you cover?

We renovate bathrooms across the Gold Coast, Northern New South Wales and the surrounding areas. CYTE is based in Mermaid Beach and holds builder licences in both Queensland and New South Wales, so we can work on either side of the border.

What makes CYTE different from other bathroom renovators?

CYTE is run by Rhys Voyce, a licensed builder who also works as a building inspector. The same person renovating your bathroom knows exactly what goes wrong in wet areas over time — from waterproofing to drainage — and builds to avoid it. Every job is run by the builder on site, to the Australian Standards, with a clear scope and a tidy finish.
